What payers have to say about 1-1 draw in El-clasico

Sunday 17 April 2011

After a tense match ending in a 1-1 draw, a number of FC Barcelona’s players spoke with the press about the first of their four Clasico encounters. Find out what Xavi, Dani Alves, Iniesta, Pedro, Valdes, and Keita had to say after the jump.

Xavi Hernandez

“In no case is Madrid strengthened [by this match]. We have been superior, faithful to our style and we leave with positive sensations in spite of not gaining all three points … We have had the control [of the ball], with patience, we have defended very well and escaped any trouble at the end.”

“They gave us control. We didn’t expect that, we thought that they would pressure us [at the front].”

“This is a small step [towards the league title], but it’s not over yet.”

On Wednesday’s Cup final: “We will seek to have control [of possession], to show our personality and from there try to win.”

Dani Alves

“I do not agree with the decision of the referee because I touched the ball cleanly and didn’t touch the player.”

“Better not to say anything more about the referees, they try to do their job.”

“It is a plus that they didn’t beat us, we have to continue thus because Wednesday we have a super important game. Let’s see if we have better luck.”

“‘We have to continue in this way, to continue adding points and to try to maintain this advantage to the end [of the season].”

“We are very motivated for the Cup, especially after this game. We deserved more, and football always provides a new opportunity and that will be Wednesday.”

“We continue [with the draw] and with one match day less and it’s very positive.”

“Everybody plays to their strengths and ultimately I think they have won an undeserved prize [the draw].”

Pedro Rodriguez

“We had a great game. A draw is a good result because we continue with the same advantage.”

“We don’t know how they will approach the final [of the Copa del Rey], we know that it will be very difficult and very hard, but we will try to win.”

“The final will be totally different. You can’t give [too much] importance to what happened here.”

Seydou Keita

“After the goal, we have passed and passed, we played well.”

“I don’t want to speak about the refereeing, but it is a little difficult.”

Andres Iniesta

“We could have taken all three points, but we have one and the assessment should be positive.”
“We have to leave happy. The match is over and now we must think of Wednesday, when we’ll play for a title.”

“The decision for the tall grass was Madrid’s. It’s their stadium and they believed it was better.”

“We controlled the game very well and the penalty is a pity.”

Valdés Valdes

“‘We are proud that the captain has played. It is not unimportant.”

“We’re happy, we like to win but this is a good result for us.”
